Engaging in Career-Long Learning

Intercultural Experience Ledger.jpg

This is the ledger I completed outlining the professional development I completed while on the Indigenous Studies trip in Costa Rica. We visited the Jade Museum, carved jícaros, listened to guest speakers, went on a cacao, medicinal plants, and organic farm tour, learned traditional weaving techniques, and visited the Conical House to learn about the BriBri cosmovision. Each of these experiences contributed toward my Intercultural Awareness Certificate that I completed in conjunction with my teaching degree.

This artifact demonstrates that I am always looking for new opportunities that will increase my fundamental knowledge of Indigenous culture. Experiences like these have changed my perspective on teaching Indigenous curricular outcomes and made me reconsider how to teach Indigenous ways of knowing and being more authentically.

Alberta Teachers' Association Workshop

This is one of the many professional development workshops I have taken in this past year. This workshop is called "Indigenous Content in the new Teaching Quality Standard: Moving from Inspiring to Inquiring." It is one of the many courses offered by the Alberta Teachers' Association. The purpose of this course is to teach educators some foundational knowledge about First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people.

This artifact shows that I am committed to career-long learning in a variety of different subjects. Attending a variety of different workshops helps me become more well-rounded and knowledgeable in a number of different areas. As an educator, I am always going to strive to learn more about First Nations, Metis, and Inuit knowledge. Workshops like these are a great way to continue my continuous growth, and they will help me teach my students more confidently in my classroom.

This is a letter of reference that I received from the Faculty Advisors in the Education program for my involvement in planning professional development sessions for education students during the 2020 - 2021 school year. As a Professional Development Coordinator, I was responsible for contacting speakers to provide our students with workshops that were engaging and relevant to their education.

This artifact shows that I am dedicated to finding learning opportunities that will enhance the teaching practices of both myself and my colleagues. As educators, we should always try to pursue more knowledge from a variety of different sources to improve our teaching practices. These professional development sessions encourage educators to collaborate with each other to find new and innovative ways to teach students. It also allows teachers to collaborate with like-minded individuals who are also committed to improving their teaching practices.

Professional Development Certificate

This is a certificate that I have received for outstanding attendance and commitment to professional development at the Medicine Hat College during the 2019-2020 school year. This certificate declared that I had attended three professional development sessions throughout the 2020 semester. These three presentations were Traditional Knowledge Teaching, E-Liability for Teachers, and Building Educational and Curriculum Resources.

This artifact shows my commitment to career-long professional learning. As pre-service educators, we are given many opportunities to enhance our learning through professional development. Professional development allows teachers to collaborate with each other to learn new ways to improve their practice. It also gives us the tools that we need to create optimal learning environments for our students. The three professional development sessions I attended allowed me to learn many new skills for my classroom.
